Parents and Guardians,

I hope this finds you well and that you are looking forward to the 2026-27 school year as much as we are. I wanted to make you aware of a couple changes here at the high school from years past.

First, CHS has moved to a semester grading system rather than a quarter system. What does that mean for you and your child?

Unlike years past, your child’s grade for each of his classes will be one continuous grade from the start of the semester until the end of the semester rather than quarter grades that are then averaged.

This shift puts our grading system more in line with what has always been reported on all transcripts and matches the style that students who chose to attend post high school education will see.

Second, while the use of AI has great potential for a variety of different uses, it has created an environment where some individuals are using it as a replacement for intellectual engagement in the learning process.

This use of AI limits the potential intellectual growth your child has. While AI may be used as a tool, it should never be used to represent a student’s own thoughts and work.

As means to address these concerns CHS will be using TurnItIn software for AI detection. If this software identifies work turned in by a student as being created using AI, per our handbook it may result in consequences ranging from no credit for the work submitted to administrative disciplinary consequences.

Please help us to encourage your child to think critically for themselves for their intellectual growth.

Thank you for all your support in the upcoming school year.
